Chianti is a renowned dry red wine from the Tuscany region of Italy, primarily made from the Sangiovese grape. Known for its characteristic lively acidity, firm tannins, and notes of cherry and herbs, it is an iconic symbol of Tuscan authenticity and winemaking excellence. 

Key Characteristics

Acidity and Body: Chianti is known for its medium-high acidity and medium body, which makes it a particularly versatile food-pairing wine. 

Grape Variety: Chianti must be made from at least 70% Sangiovese grapes, while the more strictly regulated Chianti Classico requires a minimum of 80% Sangiovese. Other permitted red grapes include Canaiolo, Colorino, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.

Flavor Profile: The wine typically features notes of red cherry, plum, and raspberry, complemented by floral (violet), earthy, and spicy undertones. As it ages, notes of tobacco and leather can emerge.
